Pay Rate: ($23hr - $26hr)

Essential Functions for the Life Skills Counselor:

  • A minimum of 50% of working time will be spent providing group individual and group instruction housing and develop curriculum relating to day to day living, financial literacy, budgeting, effective communication, development of support systems, self-care and living arrangements and expenses and other topics as needed and address clients as required and directed using positive development, trauma informed, experiential education, and culturally appropriate frameworks.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain connections and resources in the community for the implementation of hands-on learning opportunities for youth in LSH service areas.
  • Ensuring up-to-date paper & electronic client and program record keeping in compliance with program, county, state, and federal regulations and private grant requirements as applicable.
  • Facilitate a long-term project that is either an ongoing workshop or initiative.

Qualifications for the Life Skills Counselor:

  • BS/BA in social work or similar degree in human services
  • Two years of related experience in the field.
  • An individual 21 years of age or older, with the ability to identify with and adapt to the goals and philosophies of the
  • independent living program.
  • Possess sound judgment and knowledge of adolescent development and behavior.
  • Display organizational skills and are highly adept at managing multiple tasks and assignments.
  • Successful team members are creative thinkers, are flexible in their approaches to people and projects, and are capable of working with diverse groups of the population.
  • They must have the ability to travel throughout the county or assigned geographic region.
  • Must receive a passing score on annual motor vehicle clearance to be eligible to operate agency vehicles.
  • Ability to navigate stairs is highly preferred (as some locations are not always handicap accessible).
  • Proficient in computer knowledge & skills (i.e. Microsoft Windows software); familiarity with the operations of external databases and Google Suite is desired.
  • Never have been convicted of any prohibited criminal or child abuse offense.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Constantly.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds. X Occasionally.
  • Moving from one worksite to another X Occasionally.
  • Ability to navigate stairs. X Constantly.
