Actuarial Analyst Trainee Location Charleston, WV :

The West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board is seeking to fill an Actuarial Analyst Trainee position. Under close supervision, the Actuarial Analyst Trainee is expected to perform in training capacity, acquiring work specific knowledge, skills and abilities in learning the rules of the nine defined benefit retirement systems administered by the State of West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board. Under direction of the Board's Actuary, learns basic principles of actuarial science in cost and liability calculations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Board Actuary in the completion of the actuarial valuations for the retirement plans administered by the Consolidated Public Retirement Board, which includes the acquisition of the data for members and survivors of members who are receiving benefits, or might in the future receive benefits from any of the nine defined benefit plans.
• Assist in the completion of special studies regarding the plans or proposed plans, including financial projections, experience studies and stress testing.
• Assist in the completion of actuarial analysis for proposed legislation and the corresponding Actuarial/Fiscal Note regarding the legislation.
• Assist in all areas of plan administration when actuarial input and/or assistance is required.

• Ability to acquire skill in abstract reasoning, logic, and analysis with particular strength in mathematical talents and training.

• Ability to comprehend and apply abstract concepts and reasoning to commonplace events.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, employers, and government officials.

REQUIREMENTS

• An undergraduate degree in mathematics
• Strong analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Well versed in data preparation through database software and Excel spreadsheets

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE (not required)

• Knowledge of defined benefit retirement plans
• Successfully completed a preliminary SOA actuarial exam, P or FM
• A working knowledge of ProVal actuarial software

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34,688.00 - $64,172.00 per year
